Old Gridania is a section of Gridania.

Old Gridania is located in a section of the Jadeite Thick that was recently cleared. The Ebony and Rosewood Stalls, which are the bustling hub of the city's trade, are home to famous stores like the Centaur's Eye and Fen-Yll Fineries.[1]

Points of Interest[]

The Ebony and Rosewood Stalls[]

These shops' names come from a fantastical local legend that takes place around one hundred years ago. The other spirits withdrew into themselves, grief-stricken, when an elemental child died. Gridania soon had a thick layer of snow covering it. The locals were discouraged when tree boughs froze and wildlife deserted the area.

A brother and sister entered the Twelveswood in search of food for their parents, who had lost the will to live. However, they soon became separated in the dark. They nevertheless had a rosewood pipe and an ebony zither, and they started playing in order to find one another. The elementals were awakened from their trance by the beauty of the music, which also vanquished the chill that had crept over the wood. Thanks to the influence of music, Gridania quickly sprang to life again.

Westshore Pier[]

The ferry docks at Westshore Pier nearby the Wailing Barracks and travels through the Whispering Gorge before dropping off passengers in the East Shroud.

Black Boar Gate[]

Another exit from Gridania, this gate also originates from a legendary animal that guards the four cardinal directions.

The Centaur's Eye[]

This weapon store has been operated by a family of devoted bowyers for more than 150 summers, developing their significant expertise down the years. While the store still focuses on archery, its inventory has recently expanded to include lances and other items of a similar nature to better meet the desires of both Wood Wailers and outdoor explorers.

Apkallu Falls[]

Apkallu Falls is well known as a haven of meditation for the late Louisoix Leveilleur, Circle of Knowing Archon and hero of Eorzea. It was named after an ambitious Gridanian merchant's failed attempt to hatch and breed apkallus in the falls.

Fen-Yll Fineries[]

Along with Sunsilk Tapestries in Ul'dah, the finest in Eorzean clothing can be found at Fen-Yll Fineries. The leather products made by the top artisans in the shop are so well-liked that clients frequently wait months or even years before receiving their order.

Mih Khetto's Amphitheatre[]

This outdoor amphitheater was built by renowned minstrel Mih Khetto using her own fortune. She finished it and gave it to her birthplace, Gridania. The ponds behind the stage are said to be the source of the amphitheatre's unique acoustics.

The Whistling Miller[]

According to local legend, the mill's first owner used an airy whistle to entice passersby's business, giving rise to the current moniker. The Whistling Miller also sells a variety of cooking oils in addition to the finest rye and wheat flours.

Greatloam Growery[]

This farm, which has some of the best and most productive soil in the Twelveswood, belonged to a wealthy family of merchants for hundreds of summers. The family unexpectedly gave the land to Gridania in honor of the goddess Nophica in an act of charitable giving motivated by their religious convictions. The Growery is currently maintained by the Botanists' Guild, which also distributes small plots of land to its most promising members.

Yellow Serpent Gate[]

The most recent addition to Gridania's main gateways, it was built after the Calamity. It is named after the ethereal being that watches over the intersection of the north, south, east, and west, following the tradition of the other gates.

Nophica's Altar[]

This shrine is set up in the hollow of an old tree and is dedicated to the Matron. It consists of a large stone dish, where Gridanians present offerings of grain, fruit, meat, and fish in obscenely large heaps before the temple to commemorate abundant harvests or festivities performed in the honor of the elementals.

Stillglade Fane[]

Stillglade Fane, which extends beneath the massive tree roots, is a place for conjurers to meditate quietly. Many people gather in the cavern's alcoves during the silence to burn fragrant incenses to amplify their senses. They do this in an effort to hear the elementals' hushed tones that the average person cannot hear.

The Wailing Barracks[]

The Wailing Barracks, which serves as the headquarters of the Wood Wailers, has a guardhouse, places where locals can seek the Wailers' advice, and a small gaol for criminals who cause trouble in the Twelveswood.[2]
