The Sea Wolves are a clan of Roegadyn.
History[]

The Sea Wolves are native to the northern islands and are descended from a pirate family long regarded as the scourge of The Northern Empty. Though a sizable portion remain there now, many emigrated from their country seven centuries ago and eventually settled in Vylbrand. They founded the Limsa Lominsa maritime city-state, which flourished and rose to become one of Eorzea's six great city-states. Many Sea Wolves have established themselves as pirates, sailors, and fishermen, staying true to their maritime heritage. None other than Merlwyb Bloefniswyn, Admiral of Limsa Lominsa, is the most well-known of them all.
Distribution | La Noscea (Limsa Lominsa) |
Physical Attributes | Giants among the races of Eorzea, Roegadyn men average between 84 and 90 ilms, while even females can reach a commanding 75 to 87 ilms. Their entire bodies are covered with muscle and sinew, even their necks, and many frequently compare their limbs to huge tree trunks. Some people with Roegadyn hair exhibit a natural wave in addition to being thick and firm. They take great pride in their hair, and have a custom of making distinctive braids and weaves. |
Nomenclature | Although Sea Wolf names may appear mysterious at first, they actually follow distinct patterns that are ingrained in the ancient Roegadyn language. Given names are made up of two words, the first of which is a noun or an adjective. For females, the traditional list of words Swys (Sister), Thota (Daughter), Wyda (Willow), Geim (Jewel), Wyb (Woman), Rael (Doe), Lona (Gatherer), and Bhyda (Bride) is usually always used as the second name. Sea Wolf surnames are patronymics, adding the prefix -syn (meaning "son") or -wyn (meaning "daughter") to the name of the father. To use a well-known example, Admiral Merlwyb Bloeflriswyn's name breaks down as Merl (sea) + wyb (woman), Bloe (blue) + flus (fish) + wyn (daughter), roughly translating to "Sea Wife, daughter of Blue Fish." |
Culture | Unsurprisingly, Sea Wolves prefer fish and other seafood that has been served with straightforward seasoning. They are recognized for a wide variety of cured foods and make heavy use of salt, which has the extra benefit of acting as a preservative on lengthy ocean trips. Many Sea Wolves have established themselves as master brewers of robust potables and are well-known connoisseurs of ale and wine, which they prefer to the more easily perishable water. |
