The Pillars is a section of the city-state of Ishgard.
The Pillars are both the residential ward of the nobles and the seat of Ishgard's theocracy. The deteriorating stonework and burned-out structures in Foundation below stand in stark contrast to the immaculate splendor of the buildings in the Pillars above.
It features a Delivery Moogle, Retainer Vocate, summoning bell, market board, materia master, mender, and several vendors.
Points of Interest[]
The Jeweled Crozier[]
The shops lining this lengthy, narrow passageway have been compared to the priceless stones placed in the archbishop's holy crozier. Ishgardian traders hawk their goods here with the same zeal as those in any major metropolis.
Durendaire Manor[]
Because of the massive iron bell that originally graced the outside, the ancestral residence of House Durendaire is sometimes referred to as the Belfry. But after an incident on a stormy night when its rusty chains broke, sending the tocsin roaring to the cobbles and crushing a passerby, it was removed permanently.
Haillenarte Manor[]
One of the four High Houses of Ishgard, House Haillenarte is reported to have a courtyard full of exquisitely beautiful flowers, which is why many call the manor the "Rose Garden."
Fortemps Manor[]
The Alicorn is another name for the family residence of House Fortemps, which is well-known for its spire-topped gazebo where a young Lord Haurchefant was frequently spotted rehearsing his swordplay.
Dzemael Manor[]
The pride of House Dzemael is the manor known to some as The Rook. Because of their extensive architectural skills, the family has often added to and modified their ancestral home to fit the shifting fashions of the times.
Athenaeum Astrologicum[]
The Astrologicum, the epicenter of the Ishgardian school of astrology, was founded by Guenriol de Durendaire, who established the connection between the movement of the Dravanians and the coruscations of the dragon star. Guenriol was eventually considered a saint for developing Adaunel the Younger's theories and laying the groundwork for the present school. It is also home to the Astrologians' Guild.
The Arc of the Venerable[]
It is supposed that Saint Guenriol entered through this gate and established the first astrologicum in the city, following a long and illustrious career as a brave knight and dragon-slayer.
Borel Manor[]
Following the death of the old couple who had reared him, Ser Aymeric de Borel inherited Borel Manor. He lives there, accompanied by an irascible old cat and a manservant who has worked for House Borel for many years. Unfortunately, he seldom finds time to return to the manor as his administrative responsibilities require all of his attention.
The Supreme Sacred Tribunal of Halonic Inquisitory Doctrine[]
The Tribunal is the Holy See's hall of adjudication, where the accused's guilt is determined by a variety of methods, such as by combat trial. The tribunal's lower chambers also house the inquisitors, who are skilled at coercing confessions from suspects and hunting heretics.
The Hoplon[]
The biggest plaza in the city, it gets its name from Halone's bronze shield. Countless archbishops have sworn their oaths beneath the watchful gaze of King Thordan's statue, and ceremonies are frequently conducted beneath the steps that lead to the Vault to the north.
The Vault[]
In addition to serving as Ishgard's capital, The Vault is also home to the archbishop of the Ishgardian Orthodox Church. All acolytes are welcome to attend services at Saint Thordan's Basilica, which is located on the first level. Since the higher levels house the chambers of the archbishop and the offices of prominent clergy, access to them is highly regulated.
Saint Reymanaud's Cathedral[]
This magnificent cathedral, named for the Ishgardian Orthodox Church's first archbishop, hosts formal masses. Those wishing to take on the robes of the clergy can receive a thorough theological education at the nearby Saint Endalim's Scholasticate.
The Architects[]
The enormous stone sculptures that border the promenade that leads to the Vault are sculpted in the likeness of Ishgard's founding fathers, who battled alongside King Thordan I against Nidhogg.
The Last Vigil[]
Dawn, Dusk, Stone, and Steel are four citadels that are situated far outside of the city, with the Last Vigil in their core. This watchtower in the Pillars would be the last line of defense for the faithful in the event that they were overrun by the Dravanians.[1]
